New berth extension being put to good use

Holland America's Koningsdam using berth extension on 11th May 2017

Portland Port officially opened the extension to their cruise berth on 11th April this year, since then it has been tried and tested by some of the biggest cruise ships to ever visit the port.

Ian McQuade, General Manager – Commercial at Portland Port said “The extension of our main cruise berth, Outer Coaling Pier, is a key investment and demonstrates our commitment to improving facilities at the port.  Our cruise business has grown significantly over the last ten years and this extension will enable us to grow further by attracting ships that previously weren’t able to dock at Portland.”

Holland America’s Koningsdam made a return visit to Portland Port on 11th May and was the first ship to use both new dolphins, closely followed by the Disney Magic on 23rd May and the Norwegian Jade on 24th May.

All the ships to use the extension to date, have commented on how good the new facility is, combine this with the ports other facilities and its location, and Portland Port is an excellent choice for cruise ships.  Its unique position at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast allows for easy travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Stonehenge and Bath, as well as all that beautiful Dorset and the surrounding area can offer.  Cruise passengers are spoilt for choices of excursion when coming to Portland Port.
